about EMPTY BOWLS
In 1990 a high school art teacher in Michigan helped his students solve a problem. They were searching for a way to raise funds to support a food drive. What evolved was a class project to make ceramic bowls for a fund raising meal. Guests were served a simple meal of soup and bread, and were invited to keep the bowl as a reminder of hunger in the world.
By the following year the originators had developed this concept into Empty Bowls, a project to provide support for food banks, soup kitchens, and other organizations that fight hunger. Since then Empty Bowls events have been held throughout the world, and millions of dollars have been raised to combat hunger.

another world is coming
We believe, as Christians, that it is important to fight for the environment and against injustice in our world. This is the reason we are sponsoring Another World is Possible. But we are convinced that the root cause of the pollution, poverty and hate that dominate our world is really spiritual in nature. We believe that the world is broken, because our relationship with God has been broken. And the the key to healing our world is to somehow make that relationship right.
If you would like to talk more about how this can happen and why we believe that another world is not only possible, it is on its way, please contact one of us at:

another world is possible: invisible children
How It Started
In the spring of 2003, three young filmmakers traveled to Africa in search of a story. What started out as a filmmaking adventure transformed into much more when these boys from Southern California discovered a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them, a tragedy where children are both the weapons and the victims.
After returning to the States, they created the documentary “Invisible Children: Rough Cut,” a film that exposes the tragic realities of northern Uganda.s night commuters and child soldiers.
The film was originally shown to friends and family, but has now been seen by millions of people. The overwhelming response has been, “How can I help?” To answer this question, the non-profit Invisible Children, Inc. was created, giving compassionate individuals an effective way to respond to the situation.
Who we are
We are storytellers. We are visionaries, humanitarians, artists, and entrepreneurs. We are individuals part of a generation eager for change and willing to pursue it.
As a non-profit we work to transform apathy into activism. By documenting the lives of those living in regions of conflict and injustice, we hope to educate and inspire individuals in the Western world to use their unique voice for change. Our media creates an opportunity for people to become part of a grassroots movement that intelligently responds to what.s happening in the world.
But our work extends beyond our borders. In war-affected regions we focus on long-term development, working directly with individuals and institutions that are eager to realize their full potential. Through education and innovative economic opportunities, we partner with affected communities and strive to improve the quality of life for individuals living in conflict and post-conflict regions.
How We Make a Difference
Our approach to humanitarian work is founded in the strength and intelligence of the Ugandan community. We learned early on it was not only important but essential to heed the wisdom of people that had not only lived in the war, but were surviving it. People who would know better than anyone what the greatest needs were and the best ways to meet them. What we came to find is that while there have been many efforts to address the issues that stem from living and fighting in such a long-lasting war, the people of Uganda are asking for a future beyond the conflict.
Their pleas have become our development strategy.
All of our programming is a partnership between those of us at Invisible Children and those in the Ugandan community. We focus on long-term goals that enable children to take responsibility for their future and the future of their country. Our programs are carefully researched and developed initiatives that address the need for quality education, mentorships, the redevelopment of schools, resettlement from the camps, and financial stability.

another world is possible: the war
>>the WAR supports the International Justice Mission.
>>all profits from this concert to benefit IJM’s Loose Change to Loosen Chains fund
>>excerpt from the band’s website:
“We have spent the last months studying and learning about the world and what goes on behind closed doors in many places. We have learned that there is indisputable evidence that there are over 27 million slaves in the world today. 27 million. My mind can hardly grasp that number. Many of these slaves are women and children who are forced into horrible acts, such as hard labor and sexual slavery. Imagine being a 12-year-old girl ripped from your home and forcefully raped by grown men who use you as a thrill. It’s easy to read that sentence and keep moving. I want to encourage us all to actually imagine that situation. Think of the fear and pain and confusion and hopelessness victims of such gruesome acts have to deal with. Think about it again. I know that it is graphic and intense, but I can assure you that these atrocities happen much more often than we’d ever like to know. This is not a guilt trip but a call to action.
“When our band started learning about these things, we began to ask ourselves tons of questions: Why don’t we know more about this? Is anything being done to stop it? What systems allow people to get away with such cruelty? Then we thought to ourselves, what could we do to help create change?”

another world is possible: serve God, save the planet
J. Matthew Sleeth, MD, a former emergency room physician and evangelical environmental activist, will discuss why scientists, government, and environmental organizations have thus far failed to curb the exploding environmental crises that face coming generations–and why the church will succeed.
Using stories from his life in the ER, the third world medical mission field, and at home, he demonstrates that the only way to save the planet is through a change of heart. As Rev. Richard Cizik, VP of the National Association of Evangelicals, states in the foreword to Sleeth’s book–Serve God, Save the Planet: A Christian Call to Action–”Sleeth is a calm voice of reason in a frentic world. He speaks to…the men and women in the pews who know that something is drastically wrong but don’t know how to fix it. And he offers answers: turn off the TV and tune into God; give an hour of work and take a day of rest; and try to know God’s will rather than blindly pursuing the almighty dollar.”
Dr. Sleeth addresses why most evangelicals have been asleep at the wheel on this critical social justice issue, and why he has great optimism now that the church is taking up the biblical mandate for creation care. Rather than saying what government, big business, or “they”should do, Sleeth focuses on the collective actions of individuals committed to loving God by loving what He has created. With God, all things are possible.
